We call on organizations building and deploying consequential AI to make human participation, effective oversight, and shared benefit part of their operating model.
- Publish the purpose, limits, responsible decision-makers, and evaluation criteria for consequential AI systems.
- Include affected people in setting goals and reviewing impacts, with accessible participation and protection for dissent.
- Provide practical human review, correction, appeal, and shutdown procedures appropriate to the stakes.
- Test for harmful failures and make meaningful findings and remediation plans available.
- Compensate substantive community contributions under transparent, funded rules, without paying for agreement or signatures.
- Explore cooperative ownership, public benefit commitments, and DEO pilots that give participants real influence over decisions and value distribution.
- Protect privacy and prohibit using participation data for unrelated training or marketing without separate permission.
